Security Sector Reform Practitioners’ Course

Purpose
This course was designed for those with some knowledge and experience in SSR with a reasonable level of understanding of the concept. The target audience included those who wished to build on their existing knowledge in order to work on specific SSR policy development, programming or projects.
The course aimed to:
- Consolidate participants understanding of security sector reform and its various components;
- Update participants on UK Government SSR policy and the resources available to support them;
- Develop participants understanding of the complexities of translating SSR policy in practice through the use of case studies and practical examples;
- Discuss lessons learned and best/worst practice from previous and ongoing SSR programmes;
- Enable participants to hear from colleagues in other UK Government departments and institutions on their perspectives on SSR, defining policy priorities, programming and practice.
