Short Courses in SSR related subjects in Africa
SADSEM: The Southern African Defence & Security Management Network
SADSEM offers certificated training courses lasting three to five weeks and executive (non-assessed) courses lasting two to ten days in Defence and Security Management; Management of Multinational Peace Missions; Security Sector Governance, and; Parliamentary Oversight of Defence & Security. The courses are primarily aimed at senior members of the military, police and civil service of southern African countries, as well as civil society leaders. In addition SADSEM is developing a series of Masters Degrees in security sector management to be offered by its network partners.

Centre for Strategic Studies - University of Botswana
The Centre for Strategic Studies run executive courses in defence and security management, civil-military relations, the parliamentary oversight of defence and security, and the management of multinational peace missions, offering at least three short courses per year. Defence and Security Management Project, Department of Political and Administrative Studies, University of Namibia
The Defence and Security Management Project was set up for the purpose of participation in the SADSEM network. The university now has good technical facilities for the organisation and hosting of training courses, it has run a number of executive ones on defence and security management. Defence and Security Management Project, Centre for Security Studies, Mzuzu University, Malawi
The centre currently runs short courses in security management aimed at officers in the Malawi Defence Force as well as other security organs. While it only operates short courses at the moment, it hopes to develop longer academic programmes in the future. Defence and Security Management Project, Centre for Defence Studies, Department of History, University of Zimbabwe
The University of Zimbabwe run academic programmes in security on undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Many students come from the national defence force and other government departments, with which the university is closely linked. GFN-SSR has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with DCAF. This is supported by an annual workplan outlining particular activities for cooperation and areas for information exchange.
GFN-SSR works closely with our sister project, the GSDRC, which specialises in information and resources on specific governance and social development issues.
