Dr. Paul JacksonPaul is the Director of GFN-SSR, alongside his other position as the University of Birmingham's Head of the School of Government and Society. He writes on issues of conflict and post-conflict reconstruction, governance and decentralisation. He has fifteen years of experience working in developing and post-conflict areas, and consults widely, with recent assignments in Rwanda, Ghana, Sierra Leone, Uganda, Bangladesh and Bhutan. He has been Director of GFN-SSR for three years and also sits on the International Advisory Board of the Geneva Centre for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces (DCAF). Paul teaches extensively on modules for the International Development Department (IDD) and the Department for Political Science and International Studies (POLSIS) at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels and has developed the IDD Masters programme on Conflict, Security and Development. Shiv BakraniaShiv is the GFN-SSR Manager. He is responsible for the day-to-day management of the project, including reporting to UK government, dealing with financial issues and ensuring outputs are delivered. This includes researching into and keeping abreast of academic publications and is primarily responsible for responding to queries and requests for support from policy makers and practitioners. His academic background is in International Development and Conflict Resolution with a particular geographic focus on South Asian Politics. He has interests in ethnic and religious conflict, community cohesion and participatory approaches to conflict prevention and violence reduction. He has worked in developmental roles at a range of levels including for international development NGOs, regional government, and local grassroots community organisations. GFN-SSR is supported by an Advisory Group consisting of SSR experts from different backgrounds and regions. It meets formally twice per year and is a helpful source of advice, contacts and ideas for the GFN-SSR team by email and phone the rest of the time.
